About TreegonkI had some stuff written here, but it's gone... you can probably tell more about me from the pics, than my rubbish writing anyway.I live in Edinburgh and got into blip back in 2006 on the recommendation of Mr Moose who still pops his antlers above the bushes here, every now and then. I am good friends in the real world with The Moose, The Urch, The Monkeyhanger and most lately, my little red headed friend, The Squirrel has started recording her world-wide search for nuts. (In addition to lots of blip-friends here - one of the greatest online communities, thanks to Mr Blogs and team.) I did 400 daily blips and hit a brick wall, time and inspiration-wise, so I stopped for a month. Now I am back, I am only putting pics up when I like them, if I miss a day or two, I don't care. I'd rather have ten pics I like, than 365 that I felt obliged to take. I have some stuff HERE and in another location that you might find with a bit of web address imagination (where you can buy some of my stuff if you make me an offer of some beer or some of those paper beer tokens) I have fallen in love with people and street photography, when my previous love was landscapes and nature. That is something great for me which probably wouldn't have happened without blip. (and a great present from Sea Urchin) My first blip. ----------------- Gonks were first "created" (unofficially) during the First World War when the flow of teddy bears from Germany was halted. Other factories across Europe had to start producing soft toys. Because of the material shortages, the toys had to significantly simplify their designs. The Second World War again brought soft toy production to a standstill - many factories never reopened. To keep the children's spirits high throughout the two wars, women at home made gonks from stuffing socks with rags and then sewing on button-eyes and material flaps for arms and legs. In the 1960s, gonks became particularly popular, with their new designs and colours. In the UK, they rapidly became the "must-have" playground accessory. Fortunately, their simplicity meant that they could easily be made at home, and thus even the poorest children could boast one. Their popularity reached its peak in the late 1970s and early 1980s. They were often given as good luck tokens, or won as prizes at fairgrounds. Trees are big woody plants, with trunks, leaves and branches. Treegonk = A gonk that lives in a tree.
