Poundbury # 2: Mock mock gothic

Opinion is sharply divided about this house: I rather like it; everyone else hates it. There are houses like this in Clifton, Bristol (and no doubt elsewhere) built in the early nineteenth century when the 'gothick' revival was in full swing and windows with pointed arches were de rigeur. I can even forgive them sticking a gargoyle on the side of the house, where it can serve no possible purpose.

The Poundbury estate (approx 1995 - 2011 and still building) is full of new buildings that hark back to earlier styles, and it can feel a bit like walking through the back lot of a film studio, except that these houses are built to the latest spec.
