Life in Newburgh on Ythan

An old friend turns up again

I had planned to celebrate today's 75th anniversary of the first flight of the Spitfire with a photograph of my own Spitfire. Knowing my passion for this iconic aircraft, my wife kindly bought me one for my last birthday. Sadly, it is only a model and only 2 and a half inches long!

Anyway, my plans changed completely this afternoon during a walk across the Forvie Sand Dunes. Back in 2006 I came across a remarkable pattern on a dune face on Forvie, a pattern so remarkable that I thought that I would never see the like again; but today I did, it was back! The photograph shows the pattern descending from the lip of the 45 degree sloping face of a mobile sand dune. The photograph shows only about a metre of the pattern which stretched, on and off, for over 30 metres across the face of the 25 metre high dune.

Seeing this old friend again made my day, even though I have no real idea as to how it was created! You can see the 2006 version here.
