Life in Newburgh on Ythan

The Godman revisited

Last Friday, it being a fine day, I cycled to the tiny fishing village of Whinnyfold and then posted a blip of the natural haven that acts as the village harbour.

Today, being a yet finer day, I went back to photograph the village itself. This is the view, from the headland known as the Cruner, of the haven with the village perched above. In the old days, when the village still had an active fishery, the fisherfolk had to scramble down the steep grass slope to reach their boats hauled up on the shingle beach and then back up again laden with their catch. Not an easy life!

The large rocky outcrop goes by the name of The Godman and is one of many in the area that made this an hazardous place to navigate.
