Mardi Gras

Today was Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, and all of the language classes (French, Spanish, Russian, and Japanese) made floats for the "parade" through the school. This is my costume; I am Mrs. Mint. The theme for our group is Candyland, so we all got totally decked out in our candy colors. Somebody in my group even had a miniature donkey (the live kind) to pull our float (the donkey cart). There was a about 80 floats total, and I personally think ours was the best, but who am I to judge?

Everything was going well; the groups had thrown all of their candy into the audience and the floats had all left. It was time for the grand finale. The French 4 class had made a giant float designed to look like the stage for a rock band (complete with fake drums, guitars, and mike). They were all grunged up, hairsprayed, and ready to rock, so they began the fog machine. Bad idea. They were halfway to the center of the floor when everybody in the stands and on the floor heard a strange buzzing sound. Oops. I guess the fire alarm gets set off by fog machines. It's district policy that everybody has to leave the school when the alarm goes off, so there was mass chaos as almost 1,000 people try to cram out of the gym. Did I mention that half of us were in skimpy clothes, and it's -20 outside?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the school board won't be letting us have a Mardi Gras parade next year, but it was fun while it lasted!

Laissez les bon temps roulez!
