The Kingdom of Blue

Knitted thoughts is now a reality

I am in Lahore - Pakistan and today Auntie Samia and Auntie Zahra took me to meet children at the local Blood Transfusion unit. The children I met there all suffer from Thalassemia and come here for blood transfusion. This unit has a capacity to cater for 15 children at a time. 260 children are officially registered here and they come after every two weeks or so. Thalassemia is a congenital disease and these children do not normally live to see their 30th birthday. The only cure for this disease is a bone marrow transplant which is exorbitantly expensive and these poor people cannot even afford bi-monthly blood transfusion, what to talk of a bone-marrow transplant. This unit provides free facilities to these children.

We distributed toys to about 10 children today who were very happy to see such beautiful toys. We also had chocolates for everyone in the unit. The rest of the toys will be distributed hopefully next week.

Lahore is getting hotter and its now time for me to remove my muffler :)
