CO2 car

this is a very good memory.

In 8th grade (was that really 6 years ago??) my Tech Ed class was required to design and construct CO2 cars. I tried to design one based on the USS Enterprise-D from Star Trek: The Next Generation, but it was really heavy and did pretty badly in actual CO2 canister races.

My study hall was always really boring; luckily, the Tech Ed classroom was empty during it, so I would go there (with the teacher's permission) and design and build CO2 cars. My blip for today is of my second, and most ambitious, design, Golden Bullet. I spent a good amount of my study hall time using 3D modeling software to design the most aerodynamic model possible, and this is what I ended up with. I wrote in pencil on the car which days it raced (April 1, May 2 and May 3 2002) and its best time (.9537 seconds ).

One of my final designs was called the Grasshopper and was very similar to the design pictured, but painted green and about a quarter of the length. I cut out as much weight as possible. It blew away Golden Bullet's record in its first race but during its second race it snapped in half.

I wonder of my record still stands...
