Oriental Poppy

I love these enormous red poppies. I've been waiting for the first one to open for a few days now and hoping that the wind and rain wouldn't batter them to bits.

I did manage a quick walk at lunch time but the skies were very threatening and I did worry about getting caught in a downpour. I managed a few shots of some hoverflies and some woundwort shield bugs but without the sun, the damselflies and butterflies were nowhere to be seen.

The bats that live under the tiles of our bay window have returned. I think it must be a summer roost. I've counted about 14 out tonight. Perhaps I ought to try setting up my tripod one night to try and catch them emerging. You can hear them rustling about in the early evenings. We love having them there but have to keep quiet about them as our neighbours are not so enamoured with wildlife!
