Reasons to smile...

By Lauraiea

hmmmmmmmmmm!

My topic for this blip journal is reasons to smile...so why is a tablet making me smile?

Because sometimes, when I've manage to wind myself up into a mega tiz, the relief of knowing this will help calm me makes me smile! I used to be averse to taking tablets, but now I understand that they are necessary sometimes, for some people. And being able to breath properly is definitely reason to smile! I used to get embarrassed about my brain being a bit messy. Now I'm not. Because there are lots of people with messy brains. And its no different to having, say, messy blood sugar and taking insulin. Or messy blood pressure and taking tablets for that. There's just, for some reason, a weird stigma attached to mental health. And there really shouldn't be, it is no different to physical health. We all have it, just some have better physical/mental health than others, for a variety of reasons, mostly through no fault of their own.

See Me

I guess this blip is kind of motivated by training I was doing on Monday and Tuesday: Scotland's Mental Health First Aid which really attempted to make everyone on the course see how much stigma is still attached to mental health, how people are ashamed to talk about their mental health, and as I said, how everyone has mental health.

So I decided this blip would be me making an attempt at tackling the stigma! Ok a small attempt, granted.....

Its weird. I'd be much more comfortable going into details about say...peeing, or any other bodily function, than my mental health. I guess most of us would. And that ain't right!

:-)

P.S. I'm not saying medications always the answer, but when prescribed correctly it can be part of it.
