The osage orange

A member of the mulberry family, this fruit is neither an apple nor an orange. It is a native to the midwestern and southeastern United States apparently, and there known as the hedge apple because it was planted in thicket-like hedge rows before the advent of barbed wire fences.

More interestingly, i think, is the fact that the bumpy surface of the fruit is due to the numerous, tightly-packed ovaries. There's a girl that puts it right out there.
