Why is it I'm always disappointed when I'm reminded of the limitless capacity of human beings for pettiness and greed?

You'd think I'd learn after awhile.

I was reminded yet again today, when a former employer indicated he's (probably) going to try to find a legal loophole in our contract from a couple of years ago, to avoid paying me money I thought I was clearly owed.


Him: I've sold the show in Europe. I need you to re-edit a couple of things.

Me: That's great! Will I be getting my percentage, as was agreed in the contract?

Him: I'll have to look back at the contract and see.


What's there to check? He knows what he promised me. He's looking for a way out.


I'm not surprised, I suppose.

But I am disappointed. Yet again.

You'd think I'd learn.
