Ausländer in Berlin

Badly drawn (painted) boy

It was another of those days where you struggle to choose between the pictures that you have for the day. In the end I went with our son and his dyed hair, courtesy of his big sister. I should have twigged that she'd done something she shouldn't have a bit quicker. When I walked into the room she had a smile that was part mischief at doing something she knows she shouldn't and part smile of pride that she was really happy with the results of her endeavors.

As I walked further into the room at first I saw the red felt tip pen on the sofa and I looked around to see what had been the recipient of the colouring, only to discover that it wasn't a what, but in fact her little brother. This picture shows the hair after the impromptu shower to try and wash out the colouring.

In the evening I attended my second concert in Berlin and was really struck in the difference in the quality of the services provided at events in Germany. In the UK 90% of the time it's a small selection of low quality food and drink offered at prices reserved for up market London establishments. At the Zitadelle the food ranged from pommes (chips) to freshly BBQ'd pork steaks and bratwurst, they even had a crêpe stall. Drink wise there was beer, but also a cocktail tent and a frozen drink stall. Price wise it was average for Berlin ?3 for a beer, ?6 for a cocktail and ?2.50 for a bratwurst. I'm really curious to know why the services are so bad in the UK. Is it because the German's simply wouldn't put up with the low quality we do, or do the UK venue's charge so much for a pitch that its just not viable to do anything but rip off the punters.
