Red or Yellow?

This is the Stand-By vessel 'Vos Canna'. Every old fashioned captain would turn in his grave if he only could see some modern ship colors. Look at this picture; who on earth gets the idea to paint a ship yellow and black? The answer is quite easy; everybody who wants his ship to be maximum visible from sea and air under all possible conditions. A lot of of people would go for red, and to be true, red is probably the best visible color at sea. But only in two situations red looses the battle with yellow. At sunrise and sunset with the beautiful red skies. At these moments you prefer yellow. Therefore a lot of rescue ships, required to be visible, are painted yellow. It was also found out that black stripes makes the yellow paint even more visible. It is a kind of the world wars 'dazzle painting' effect, although that was done for exactly the opposite reason. In the background you'll see the Hermod still ballasted deep in the water with her cranes down.
