Smingus Dyngus

That's what we call Easter Monday in Poland. The tradition is to pour water over people (water=life etc). Little did I know yesterday when I promised to explain it how I'm going to spend Smingus Dyngus. I spent it ankle deep in waste water flooding our new house. We were just about to leave and have a nice day on the beach, when Hanna noticed that bathroom floor is all wet. There are holes in the middle of the floor in every bathroom here, and that's where the water was coming out of. Now, we have two bathrooms and a laundry room, also equiped in this hole. We waited for the "water people" for some time, while trying to stop the flood spreading onto carpets, into bedrooms, pouring the water into the toilets, as this is a separate outlet (what a blessing!).
The result - all boxes full of books shifted back to the living area, all new cd racks in the garage, Hanna's toys all piled on her bed and in the corner. The house looks worse that when we moved in. Carpets are washed and wet, no idea if the underlining will dry or if it will stink, if the landlord gets the carpets out, how quickly/slowly this all will happen. I will definately remember the first Easter in Oz.
