Sunday 25 October 2009: Breakfast on the Bridge.....
Today was the day for Breakfast on the Bridge, which was part of the Crave food festival that is on in Sydney during October, the bridge was closed to traffic for 12 hours & people had from 6:30 to 8:30 this morning to have a picnic on the Harbour Bridge!!
So the alarm went off this morning at 5am......it wasn't as difficult as expected to get up after all....don't let that fool you into thinking it will be a regular thing!!
Grabbed a taxi & headed into the city, picking up some friends on the way. The weather was dry but cloudy....so better than was forecast.
It all went very smoothly....considering it was the first time they had held it.....it was a very surreal experience.
They had covered the majority of the road surface with real grass....there were pens with cows, a couple of bands playing, huge loud speakers playing bird songs....it was very strange indeed!!! Sitting having a picnic breakfast with champagne & strawberries & lots of other goodies....whilst the train passes just off to the side & the opera house & city are just visible in the other direction.
It was so much fun....we were very lucky to get tickets, it was a lottery for the tickets ....190,000 people applied for just 6,000 tickets....hopefully they do it again next year!!! A big thanks to Chris & Maja for taking us !!!
Oh yeah & our group was interviewed by one of the news channels & apparently we made the news!!! Have to check again on tonights broadcast.....if we are awake!!!
Unfortunately the light wasn't great for photographs....it did stay dry though....after breakfast Andrea & I walked home ( about 10 km's).....it hasn't stopped raining since we got back....really heavy rain & thunder & lightning.....so glad it wasn't like that a few hours ago....very lucky !!!
As per usual......here are the extra shots from today !!!

This is a fabulous angle. I like it a lot. Champagne breakfast sound wonderful and actually so does the walk home. You really lucked-out not to get rained on. I am curious as to what the 6,000 had to do to get their tickets and what was being celebrated. Thanks for sharing it with us. Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka

Fantastic picture. Couldn't have done that here today - would have been blown off the bridge and your sandwiches would have been soggy in the rain!!
