Wednesday 25 November 2009: Safe

One of our neighbours' garden gate. Today in the French calendar is Sainte Cathérine's day and the saying is 'A Ste Cathérine tout bois prend racines' - on St Cathérine's day all wood takes root. It's the day for planting trees, so we planted out a small cherry sapling given to us by another neighbour which has been in a pot since last year.

  1. Love the gate with its chunky chain! I didn't know about St Catherine's Day, but it's not the same in my catalan diary... I thought it might be.

  2. Magnificant image! I did a little tour of rue St. Catherine in Montréal yesterday -- not too many trees there, I'm afraid.

  3. Terrific image - suggests they don't want visits form sales reps etc. though. Come to think of it, I could do with one of those!

  5. That's a great old chain. Won't be much tree planting going on in Scotland today - I think they'd wash away!

  6. I had forgotten that tradition. Love the rusty old chain.

  7. There's some lovely rust on there. Hope your little tree grows well, it's a great tradition.

  8. Very interesting detail- it looks a bit like a modern sculpture.
Good luck with your cherry tree.
