Life with The Pinks

By suzypink

why did the chicken cross the road?

Once upon a time there was a red chicken, called Henrietta. She arrived on Grandma pink's drive one day, and decided to adopt the garden as her new home. Henrietta was soon joined by a black chicken called Harriet. She didn't "arrive" at mum's house but was chosen along with a very cute and bijoux residence for the two "girls" to live in. The two hens happily lived side by side in Grandma Pink's garden. When they felt like it they'd reward their carer with an egg or two.
One day Henrietta went off her dinner of slugs and scraps and cereals and was a poorly chicken. A few days later poorly Henrietta went to the great chicken coop in the sky.
After an appropriate time in mourning for the little red chicken, Harriet was joined by Hetty a new black chicken with golden neck feathers. And to this day they follow Grandma pink around the garden, give Molly the dog the beady eye, and check the vegetable patch regularly for new seedlings.

We'll never know where Henrietta came from, but today in the snow, another almost identical chicken was seen from Grandma Pink's driveway, looking casually across the road, to see what was on the other side.
