arrived in the UK in 1975 - "ponchos" and all - and landed in Thamesmead!! of all places...

"Thamesmead is the name given to a group of disparate mainly social housing developments built from the late 1960s onwards mostly on former marshland on the southern banks of the Thames between the more established towns of Woolwich and Belvedere
...was one of the last social housing estates featuring high-rise tower blocks to be built in this the country.
...including Southmere Lake, was used as a setting for the Stanley Kubrick film A Clockwork Orange

"When all the world is young, lad, / And all the trees are green; / And every goose a swan, lad / And every lass a queen; / Then hey for boot and horse, lad, / And round the world away: / Young blood must have its course, lad,/ And every dog his day."
Charles Kingsley

"Clearly, then, the city is not a concrete jungle, it is a human zoo."
Desmond Morris
