Corn.

My grandfather used to grow this on his farm.

My mother had to spend days out in the fields picking it when she was growing up.

Now I spend my days dealing with computers, digital video cameras, digital still cameras - things that weren't even invented when I was born, much less when my mother was out in the hot Georgia sun, picking corn in the fields.

Living in the city, I hardly ever even see the stuff anymore.

My life is all concrete and metal and plastic.

What have I gained, and what have I lost?
