Swimming Against The Tide

Symphony Hall

Last night (uploading late again) I returned to Birmingham for another concert. This one was very different from Saturday's - a change of companion (Wonderspouse accompanied me), location, and repertoire. The only thing that was the same was the car parking venue, which was the same as Saturday!

This time the repertoire was Bartok's 2nd Violin Concerto followed by Shostakovich's 4th Symphony. CBSO did us proud, especially in the Shostakovich, which was truly excellent. I was particularly impressed by the Bass Clarinet player - superb, and, I have to confess, rather more excited than is strictly polite by the sight of TWO flumpophones and their synchronized mute actions!

Furthermore, I also met some excellent tweeps (and blippers), @HopBarn, @Orchid99 and @5357311. Lovely people, all of them, a delight to meet them and have real live people to put to imagine when I'm talking to them online. I must also thank @5357311 for the spiny friend cuttings (to which I must soon attend), the flumpophone books, and for buying me an ice cream in the interval!

A fabulous evening. Have a desire to research Shostakovich now!
