One day at a time

Relief

I was so glad to see this little face today! This is one of the blackbird chicks that was nesting in the tree in my garden. Yesterday, the three chicks left the nest. I spotted two of them when I was watering the flowers - I scared them and they were trying to fly away. They were too young to fly and could only manage to get about 2-3 feet in the air before falling back down again. I then saw the third chick. It had fallen into the little bowl of water which the birds normally drink from and had drowned. I was worried that the other two would fall victim to a cat or fox in the night. But they hid themselves well and the first thing I saw this morning was one of the chicks bounding across the lawn. And a few seconds later Mum flew down to feed them. They can fly a little bit higher today, and Mum and Dad are keeping a very close watch on them. So hopefully these two surviving chicks will make it.
