Slioch Horseshoe Hill Race

Decamped from Clachtoll on a misty morning and headed south through improving weather to pick up John who'd come over from Ireland last night, spent the night in Inverness and was going to get the train to Achnasheen. We arrived about ten minutes after his train and then continued onto the campsite at Kinlochewe.

Our friends Mick and Kathy were doing the Slioch Horseshoe Hill Race, but as we arrived at the start/finish we saw Kathy who unfortunately had twisted her ankle in training on Monday and hadn't recovered sufficiently to race.

Avoiding the temptation of the home baking tent we settled down to watch the runners come in until we spied Mick in the distance having a wee walk before putting in his finishing burst. After a bit of a lie down and a wee moan about how hard it was he finally admitted to being pretty pleased with his time and position. We then cheered in Kathy's training partner Fiona who finished well, although she was perhaps a little too quick to visit the home baking tent.

Much respect to all runners and a little envy from myself that my knackered knee doesn't let me partake in these sort of events - at least that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. The race was won in a new record time of 2:08:05 by Brian Marshall, Mick was 40th in 3:16:27 and Fiona 60th in 4:08:54.
