Quetta Tyres

goodbye (front) and our old time worker Ramzan (back) at our shop Quetta Tyres in Layyah. Ramzan was only 10 when he joined our shop, he is 37 now. Quetta Tyres was founded in 1963 by my late father. It was one of the first tyre vulcanizing shops in Layah. It remained the single source of income for our family till 2002, the year when I started my first job. This shop fed a family of 10 members, educated 8 children and gave us money to build our house.

Now Quetta Tyres is supervised by my elder brother. But the shop itself is a disaster. There are only a couple of dozens of tyres in it, most of them owned by other dealers. The average daily income of the shop, earned from fixing tyre punctures and filling air, is not more than 100 or 150 rupees (less than 2 euros). Most of it is gone in covering daily expenses. Workshop is using the same equipment for more than 30 years and was unable to modernize itself which is one reason of the failure. Unrecovered loans are the second reason. Also some other accident let this shop sink in chaos. The shop once my father was proud of has now just only a name.

Dad we are all sorry about that.
