Friday 18 June 2010: The Jean Genie
This is Jean, who I bought a bottle of water from this morning in order to get some change for a parking machine.
She presides over the most wonderful newsagent in Linlithgow.
Nay, the world.
She only sell one brand of cigarettes: Lambert & Butler (in tens and twenties), green Rizla papers (regular size) and boxes of matches (Scottish Bluebell). The remainder of the large cigarette display is given over to photographs of her customers' dogs - their names clearly written in the corner of each - and Elvis Presley memorabilia.
Stuck to the side of the display is a postcard with a picture of a West Highland Terrier. The text reads "Lost dog. Blind in one eye and recently castrated. Answers to the name of Lucky."
It is these moments that make life worthwhile.

What an eccentric scene. Nice capture!

@Ecodad - I keep you all on tenterhooks! It went down very well indeed (swingingly, in fact) and will be featured as soon as I run out of other things to photograph...

If you look hard enough my mum's pugs are somewhere on that wall somewhere...... I used to get my quarter of Bonbons there on a Sunday morning after Sunday school many moons ago!!!
Same Jean that used to serve me then!
