Along Deadhorse Road

Our travel itinerary:

Anchorage, Alaska > Seattle, Washington > Salt Lake City, Utah > Rapid City, South Dakota > Chadron, Nebraska

This is a scene from Deadhorse Road, west of Chadron, northwest Nebraska. This is a typical ranch along Deadhorse Creek. The Pine Ridge, the southern most rim of the Black Hills uplift, can be seen on the horizon.

As a small boy, I grew up in the cow town of Chadron, then a population of 6,800, now only 5,600.

I found it interesting that the trees are turning fall colors, same as Alaska, 3000 miles away.

Nebraska is in the heartland of the United States and the Great American Prairie.
