Loch Bobbing

This morning we launched at Dunstaffnage and did a shallow drift from the Firth of Lorn into Loch Spelve on the Isle of Mull. The trip across was choppy in parts but the sun was shining and the sky was very blue.

The final dive of the weekend was under the Connel Bridge where Loch Etive joins the Firth of Lorn. Just under the bridge is a tidal race known as the Falls of Lora. The falls are caused by the waters of the loch being squeezed into the narrows and up over a shelf of rock. At full ebb on a spring tide the overfalls are spectacular! This weekend was neap tides, the lads dived just after slack, on the slowest part of the tide, and got whisked through the narrows rather fast - excellent diving if the manic grins were anything to go by!

Meantime Ann and I decided to try out the drift on the surface, here you see Ann, one half of the Divetech Womens Doubles Freestyle Loch Bobbing Team - it was fab :)
