battlestar

This was another reason I fell off the blip wagon.

The Battlestar project began soaking up a lot of my thinking time - there was an exhibition looming.

This is a detail from a freshly finished prototype.

You'd think from the name it was something massive but its a coffee table, made to fulfill a fairly staunch brief.

Tim and I were working to build a table that was:
[1] Made from one piece, no joins, fixings, screws, glues;
[2] One material;
[3] Fully recyclable;
[4] Able to be made of recycled material;
[5] Fully flat-packable;
[6] User assembled with no tools; and
[7] Produced less than 5% pre-consumer waste.

The results:
[1] Tick;
[2] Tick: aluminium sheet;
[3] Tick: see [2];
[4] Tick: see [2];
[5] Tick: ships 5mm thick plus cardboard pakaging, so 11mm;
[6] Tick: user folds it up;
[7] Tick: less than 1% pre-consumer waste.

Looks pretty neat too.
