One of the Cullera bridges...

Just another bridge?

No, this one is the first of it's kind in Spain.

It was constructed all in one piece on the side of one river bank. Then one end was put on a rotating platform on a barge and floated in an extension of the river that was dug out from the bank.

The other end of the bridge was attatched to a huge crane and swivelled through 90º until it reached the other river bank.

The two ends were then attatched to the river banks and connected to the support roads.

Gripping stuff.....
