A Blip on the Reidar

Look left and right... Abandoned (Part 5)

This used to be the main road up to the Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline but the excessive amount of traffic that travelled on it after the opening of the hospital forced the council to build a new wider road just to the side of this one.

I have a feeling (rightly or wrongly) that this was actually called Hospital Road but the maps say it is (or is connected too) Whitefield Road. There is a very good chance that it never was called Hospital Road though as the road has certainly been around for many a year but the hospital was constructed between 1983 and 1993 so it may just have adopted the name of Hospital Road based on the directions of people saying 'Aye just head up the hospital road and turn left', etc.

Anyway, the railway bridge is still in use but the road itself now only sees pedestrians and the odd kids football. It looks amazingly thin for two lane traffic and I do remember going up it in my Dads car and having to pull over to one side to let a coal truck pass by.
