It's been a mildly disappointing day, apart from discovering that a small spider had hitched a lift back from the allotment on the honesty and had built a lovely web. Since there are rarely any flying insects in the flat I tried harvesting a couple of greenfly from the windowsill plants and dropping them onto the web. Result! The spider rushed out and had them immobilised and wrapped up in a trice. S/he's now eaten them and is looking quite fat. Still too small for my camera to blip, though.

I think this must be quite an old drain cover. The Albert Foundry was just around the corner on the Shore, now Browns the engineers. I tried without success to find out when the foundry stopped production, but in the process stumbled upon an amazing site full of information about Scottish ironwork, some of it very well travelled indeed!
