The Shard #1 - A hard day in the office

What started with a heavy fog, ended with a glorious day. I had no plans and decided on a relaxed day in London enjoying, if the forecasts are to be believed, one of the last few sunny days of the summer.

On exiting London Bridge, you emerge under the forbidding shadow of The Shard which is being erected next to the station. This skyscraper, when complete in 2012, will be the tallest in London, the UK and the EU, being 310m high.

High from a walkway over the road you are able to see straight into the site below. The two workers on the lorry caught my eye, sitting in their harnesses (which were tethered high in the air), as though they were waiting in the wings of a theatre ready to make a dramatic entrance, flying across the stage.
