Luc's boat

A strange day. The weather was glorious again but this morning we had to go to the funeral of the husband of a friend of mine. It was a funeral mass and although not new to us, always a rather strange experience - we're not Catholics, we're not even believers but we are part of the community and in a small place like this, everyone attends a funeral even if you only knew the deceased slightly - as in our case. It was a personal and celebratory mass, several hundred people there from little babies to the elderly. The coffin was piped out into the sunshine as the bell tolled - timeless and moving.
Later I wandered down to the shore and took a few photos of Luc's boat. Luc is Belgian and looks like Captain Haddock in the Adventures of Tintin. He lives for the sea and although he used to be an architect in a different life, now contents himself with catching lobsters and crabs and messing about in boats. This little boat is beautiful - he built it himself over a winter, painted it himself (complete with eyes to ward off evil) and had the sail made locally. He's often to be seen pottering about in the bay, accompanied by his dog Susie, and sometimes his wife Monique! He also has a very beautiful fishing boat which may be blipped another day.
