Layers

At first when I was driving to school, I thought that the sky would be a bit of a disappointment, compared with others I have seen over the past week. But, rounding the corner at the Youth Hostel, I saw my favourite type of view of the mountains. Instead of a dark silhouette against a bright sky, the subtle blues and pinks over the mountains let me see every layer. Each layer is a small hill, or a slightly bigger hill in front of the Torridon mountains.

Layers of blue & grey fading into the distance remind so much of Colin Baxter's photography. I will never forget the first time I saw one of his postcards. At last - hills the way I saw them, instead of the usual stuff trotted out by the Scottish Tourist industry - everything in sharp relief, not a cloud in the sky, purple heather abloom and a convenient piper in the corner. Oh, and a westie (resplendent with tartan collar) at his feet (Sorry, Macintosh!)
