Ice Flow

We had a day out at the new Robert Burns visitor centre in Alloway in Ayrshire today and very good it was too. Lots of interesting exhibits with plenty of things to keep the children amused. The prolific nature of Burns' poetry and song never ceases to amaze me - Auld Lang Syne, Scots Wha Hae, Ae Fond Kiss etc etc. Beautiful.

On the way there, we were stuck in slow moving traffic and when eventually we saw what was causing it, I stopped to get the camera out. The River Ayr had apparently frozen solid, then melted enough to cause great chunks to break away and then frozen and crashed into the bridge at the road causing an ice flow log-jam for as far as could be seen up and down the river. I've never seen anything like it. A number of people were taking photographs but this guy was the only person brave (or foolhardy) enough to venture into the middle of the river to get his shot.
