Bottom Shop

The Links Tavern is a Very Traditional Boozer at the bottom of Restalrig Road. It was given a new lick of paint back in the summer, but has apparently kept its unique character...
It was one of the last pubs in Edinburgh to get a ladies' loo, and for a long time refused to serve women beer in pints (was this related?)
I'm glad that it retained the old McEwans and Youngers windows, although they were horrible beers, it was all you could get in the 70's and most of the eighties. I feel strangely fond of the old bearded gent with the checked trousers and the laughing cavalier as trade marks,
They have also kept the traditional frosted glass in the lower windows, I think it was so that your wife couldn't see if you were in the pub, especially as no Respectable Lady would dream of crossing the threshold.

I have never been into the Bottom Shop myself, but only because they don't serve a decent pint; I'm not very respectable and I ain't no lady....
