Sgwarnog: In the Field

Worn Steps

This is an impressive flight of steps rather hidden away in Bradford City Centre, linking Sunbridge Road and Millergate/Aldermanbury. It features on one of my many alternative routes between the train station and campus.

I'm sure I've read something about this specific flight somewhere, but can't place it now. The story I recall is that there was a mill near the bottom of the steps, and the notable wear mainly relates to the clog traffic from that.

Echoes here of a previous blip.

The manufacture of clog irons (the sole attachments that made the clogs last longer, and created the wear on the stone) was a bit of a local industry, with Silsden in Airedale a particular focus.
