Hello. My name is Joe and I created Blipfoto.

It entered the world on 21 October 2004 as a personal project, where I set out to take and share just one photo a day. In early 2006, myself and a few others put a ton of work into making Blipfoto a platform anyone could use. In July that year the first version was released and the community was born.

In 2008 Blipfoto Limited was formed to operate the growing platform. In December 2010, following a small injection of seed funding, me and two blokes called Graham put everything else in our lives on hold and made Blipfoto our job.

By the end of 2014, this place had become home to more than 5 million days of human life in 175 countries, and the Blipfoto team was 11 strong. We had won a BAFTA Award, been archived by the British Library, met the Queen and Steve Wozniak (not together, that would have been weird) spoken at TEDx, raised a further £1m of investment and travelled tens of thousands of miles around the world.

In March 2015, a bold and necessary move to build a larger user base in the US failed, the company ran out of cash and was put into liquidation.

Blipfoto was saved from closure by two US Investors, who I continued to work with and explored all possible futures for the platform. Towards the end of 2015, it was decided the Blipfoto community should be given an opportunity to take the platform into its ownership. After a successful crowdfunding campaign, Blipfuture CIC took ownership in February 2016.

I am no longer involved, but hope the very special thing I created continues bringing joy to many people for many, many years to come.
