June 2014 saw my Civil Engineering with Architecture course at the University of Glasgow coming to a close, and marked the beginnings of a memorable year. Jack and I grafted in Glasgow for the first few months but by October we'd banked the necessaries and were ready to hit the road.

With our main aim being to get to Indonesia as cheaply as possible, our intermediate travel locations were chosen primarily because we could get budget flights to and from them. The route took us first to Turkey, then to Sri Lanka via Qatar and Dubai, before making the jump to Malaysia.

We're avid fans of wildlife and exploration of natural places, so will be keeping these things at the core of our wanderings. Getting to know some new cultures is also a must though, as well as improving our Indonesian to near-fluency and obtaining some dive qualifications further down the line.

Hopefully this journal will give some flavour of what we get up to over the course of the year! I'm determined not to let it slide into disuse, and it'll definitely be a good incentive to improve my photography skills. Right now, chances are that if it's a REALLY good photo.. Jack took it. There's hope for me yet though!
