A great view could be had.....

My blip today was taken as the sun rose, (I love the shaft of sunlight) & is of the now disused silos, once a central part of the Timaru's most prominent historic landmark, a six-storey Timaru Milling Company Building which was built in 1882. It was the first mill in the country to use rollers instead of grindstones, & has many of the early interior features intact still. The mill still operates and is thought to be New Zealand's last dry pasta plant.

However, back to silos, these have been sold and was rumored that there may have been apartments built within - some "fly by night" scheme I think.

Located in central Timaru, it is the highest artificial abseiling site in New Zealand; you can abseil down the 30 metre high silo. In clear weather, spectacular vistas over South Canterbury include views all the way to
Aoraki Mt Cook

Take note of the sign to the right, not too clear, but reads -
'Chipmunks' play area and café -

.... yes, here in NZ we start the abseilers very young, and if that activity doesn't satisfy the wee tots while their Mums & Dads are enjoying a coffee in the cafe, they can bungi jump into the Pacific Ocean which is located at the back of the silo. For more mundane activities there is a green cart (left) that provides huge amount of fun incorporated with destruction!! The authorities are currently erecting a circular slide within the interior for wet weather activities!! Timaru Public Hospital is 500 metres along the road.

.I just let my imagination run wild for a moment!!
Chipmunks Play area & Cafe are located in an area to the right, there is an arrow but not seen here.

Another in the area's history here

Rainie :)
