Augusta ferry

Saturday
Augusta, Kentucky lies about forty miles east of Cincinnati on the Ohio river. It is a delightful, historic river town, having a number of houses dating back to the 1780s and 90s. It is a favorite place with our pastor and he quite often makes reference to it during his messages. I had heard on the radio this week there was a special event going on there today, called Art in the Garden, featuring over 60 local and regional artists exhibiting along Riverside Drive, as well as music and food, so I decided it would be a great time to go and check it out. One of Augusta's claims to fame is that it was home to actor George Clooney during his high school years - his parents still live there. His aunt, singer Rosemary Clooney also had a home there. There is no crossing over the river between Cincinnati and Augusta, the next road bridge is about another 15 miles. Going, we crossed the Ohio in Cincinnati, but returning home we took the ferry. There has been a ferry crossing the Ohio at this spot since 1798, but this ferry is now one of only two or three remaining on the Ohio river.
In the mid-afternoon we headed back downtown, this time with Laura, to the baseball game - Cincinnati Reds against the LA Dodgers. Although Cincinnati was up by 3 or 4 at one point, the Dodgers equalized and finally won in extra innings.
