Tram

This is the restored antique tram which runs along the Istikal Caddesi in the Beyoglu district of Istanbul.

We've spent the better part of half a day wandering back from Taksim Square to the hotel taking the modern tram twice and also the modern funicular from Kabatas to Taksim.

Quite a contrast from the other side of the Golden Horn, where we have been based hitherto.

I travelled to Istanbul on an interrail holiday in 1981. I suspect we didn't cross the Golden Horn then as according to the guidebooks that area was very rundown until the 1990s. I don't remember too much of Istanbul, although some sights and sounds have been familiar. I must look to see if I have any photographs.
