Back in the theatre

A photocall for the National Theatre of Scotland's latest production, 27 by Abi Morgan which opens at the Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh tonight. The play explores issues of aging that affect us all, and considers science, loneliness and the loss of our sense of self. It is set in a convent, where the nuns have agreed to take part in a scientific study into the effect of aging on the brain. Vicky (Featherstone, artistic director of the NTS) was very accommodating as the cast ran through three short scenes a couple of times each, as well as repeating a few specific bits - like this moment when Maureen Beattie, who plays Sister Ursula Mary walks up a dramatically-lit staircase.
