Walking on Water

This is a Willet coming in for a landing at Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary (it ended on the shore, out of the frame to the left). It was very early morning, absolutely still after a frosty night.

Willets (Catoptrophorus semipalmatus) belong to the sandpiper family, which has a grand total of nearly 90 species--varying widely in shape and size (from 6 inches to 2 feet in length).

This was the last day of a four-day visit to Allens Pond--the first is here, with more info.
