Meet Jean

Today we were up early (about 5:20 am) for a trip to Dayton in the southwest corner of Ohio. On the return trip this evening, we stopped at a nursing home near Delaware, Ohio, to visit our 94 year old friend Jean. An active member of our church for years and years, Jean has been living independently, attending church regularly, serving on various committees, taking painting classes, and much, much more. In November, a stroke took away much of her independence, and she moved into a nursing home near one of her daughters, but two hours away from her church family. There she has been receiving therapy on a daily basis, and although her memory is somewhat impaired, she recognized us, and proudly demonstrated how she could stand up straight and tall for the first time in many years. She also demonstrated her newest skill: doing wheelies in her wheelchair, as she zipped down the hall so fast we had to hurry to keep pace with her. When anyone asks Jean, "How are you?", her one word reply is blessed! Indeed she is, and she is also a blessing to all of us fortunate enough to call her friend.
