Unknown Normandy Apples

Today we had a meeting of the local Community Orchard Group at our house. After the meeting I decided it would be appropriate to blip something from an orchard and as we haven't planted the orchard yet but we have a stash of apples in the larder, the apple stash won.

My in-laws in Normandy have a large old apple tree in their garden. They don't know the variety but they believe it's a common local variety that produces fruit that are red on the side that faces the sun and green on the shady side.

When the visited before Christmas they dropped off about 25 kg of apples that we have been working our way through. The tree is untreated with pesticides and they haven't been washed so they are a bit "rustic" looking, but they still taste good.
