The Bath And Bristol

This afternoon I was at Bath Spa station to see the Bath and Bristol steam special on its return to London Waterloo. The train was pulled by an LMS Stanier Class 5 engine. These are generally known as Black Fives. There were 842 built but only 18 have been preserved. Henry the Green Engine was based on one, and it was the subject of Magritte's Train Transfixed.

44932 was built in 1945, one of 53 originally commissioned by the LMS at the Horwich Works near Bolton. It carries the shed code 10A, showing it was allocated to Carnforth at the time it was withdrawn from service in 1968. It now belongs to the West Coast Railway Company.

It came to rest beyond the end of the platform, but I had got a number of shots as it arrived. This is my preferred shot.
