Bouzouki and Baglama

Did you know this? Someone told me, in Athens, that when the Greek government (years ago) banned bouzoukis because they were used to accompany anti-government protest songs, the baglama was invented because it could be hidden under a coat. "Baglama" means "ridiculous".

(Greek readers please correct this if my informant was actually a misinformant.)
