Bruce

Heading back from our all-too-short weekend away, we stopped off at a couple of great places - one of them planned, the other completely spur-of-the-moment.

Cruachan Power Station (also known, rather breathlessly, as The Hollow Mountain) is a pumping Hydro Electric Station, where you can visit the massive underground turbine room. It looks just like a James Bond set, and it's no wonder Christopher Brookmyre featured it in one of his books.

Our second stop was at St Conan's Kirk in Lochawe, where we saw this figure of Robert the Bruce. A great wee place to visit, it's very eccentric, with loads of oddities - and while it looks ancient, it's mostly last century. It seems it was designed and built by this feller so that his mum and sister didn't have too far to walk to church. Ah, those wacky rich folk!
