Wife lead

Today has been a poor blip day because I have spent it gardening.

So I raided my collection of unusual objects and found this charming little tool of oppression, used not on slaves but on women.


When I first spotted this one made from cane in a Barbados shop a few weeks ago I couldn't figure out what it was used for.


So I asked.

"Wife lead." said the owner smiling.
She demonstrated it by putting it on her little finger.

"If your husband thinks you have been talking too much he comes along and pulls you away."

I hope such things are only made for tourists now...
