Swimming Against The Tide

Winter's Back!

Backblipped on 18th April 2012

The morning dawned cold, wet and blustery! However, we were happy. Much as we love our home and our animals, it had been lovely to be just the two of us, spending all our time together, no poo to clear up, no phones to answer, no cooking or cleaning to do. Just time for us.

But it was now time to go home. We toyed with going to the South and going back via Cardiff on the motorway, but eventually decided to head off over the hills as we usually do. After breakfast we loaded the car (Gary JUST fitted), went for a bracing walk round town, then headed off back to the East.

As soon as we gained altitude it started to snow, quite thickly, and to settle. This picture was taken as the weather started to close in on us - about half an hour later we were driving in blizzard conditions, following a snow plough!

We could hardly believe it - only last week I'd been at Scharwenka's and he'd been sunbathing in his undies!

After a snowy and careful drive over the Welsh hills, the snow started to subside, and as we got back over the border into Lloegr, it was merely raining. Perversely, as we pulled into our village, it was actually sunny, with blue skies! It was as though the snow had been some sort of crazy dream!

We checked on the animals, fed the cats, poked the hamsters to check they were OK, and greeted every single rat! They were delighted to see us. I checked the nakeds' eyes, which were absolutely fine, and, once we'd unloaded Gary and our bags from the car we went off the the vets.

Charlie was still rattly, but well in himself, and Jeremiah and Valiant were happy and pleased to see me. The vet said he'd given up on baytril, tried metacam (to no effect) and had now put Charlie on doxycycline. I took the doxycycline home, and paid an exceedingly reasonable amount for the care Charlie had had while we were away - small pet lodging is much cheaper than cat lodging it seems!

Then we settled back into home life, gently unpacking our stuff. Gary moved into our bedroom, and we went to bed feeling a whole lot calmer for having had a couple of days away. :-)
